Rain-Out Policy

This policy outlines the procedure JLMSA follows to determine whether games are cancelled due to weather.  Notifications will be sent out as outlined below if games are cancelled.  In general, JLMSA makes every effort to avoid cancelling games. Baseball is an outdoor sport and games are played in light rain conditions.

If you do not receive notification, assume games are happening as scheduled, and please show up at the ball park to play!

Rain-Out Policy:

  1. If heavy rains or other inclement weather take place during the day and render the diamonds not usable, the Town of Lincoln and/or Lions representative Bill Linwood will notify the Jordan Softball President.
  2. If the weather is uncertain, the President or aligned personnel, Umpire in Chief to verify park conditions will make a call on whether to cancel the early games by 5:30pm and the late games by 7:30pm.
  3. Rain-Out Communication Notification will take place as follows:
    1. A mass email will be sent out from Jordan Minor Softball.
    2. Notification will be be posted on the Jordan Minor Softball website.
    3. Notification will be posted to social media if possible.
  4. Once a decision has been made to cancel, the President or assigned personnel notifies the Division Convenor, Umpire in Chief, and Foodbooth Coordinator. The umpire may also call a game in process if it puts the players at risk with localized thunder or lightening.
  5. The umpire in chief notifies all umpires of the change to the schedule.
  6. The Foodbooth Coordinator notifies the Lions member (Glen Corfield cell: 905.321.2645) responsible for opening booth and those assigned to work.
  7. Games cancelled due to rain-out will be rescheduled. Details for rescheduled games will be posted on the Jordan Minor Softball website once available.

Condition clarifications:

  1. Light intermittent rain will not justify a game cancellation.
  2. Where a light rain has been coming down all day, if we have not been notified by the Town and/or the Lions to cancel, we will assess diamond condition before a decision is made.
  3. Localized thunder and lightening will automatically cancel a game, regardless of diamond condition.
